SUSTAINABLE DESIGN

Our design practice is dedicated to environmentally and socially-conscious craftsmanship. Throughout our business and its supply chain we have made choices to reduce our impact on the environment.  We are committed to sourcing fabrics from overstocked sources, and/or organic and sustainable materials, producing garments for long-term enjoyment, and manufacturing in transparent and ethical factories. We make every effort to ship with bio-degradable plastics and use recycled paper products when necessary.

WHY OVERSTOCK TEXTILES

The apparel business generates massive amounts of textile waste across the globe, either through over-production or other circumstances resulting in thousands of yards of very beautiful and imminently useful fabrics being wasted, and most likely ending up in landfills or being incinerated. We strongly believe that it is our responsibility to “re-purpose” these textiles, as opposed to using “virgin” textiles in our business.

GOTS CERTIFIED ORGANIC COTTON

When and if necessary to purchase new cotton, our cottons will carry the GOTS (Global organic textile standard) certification and are grown from non-genetically modified seeds. The certification standard covers all aspects of textile production, from the harvesting of raw materials through to environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing. Our GOTS certified organic cottons are grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers or toxic pesticides making them safer for the cotton farmers to work and protecting the soil and the surrounding environment from contamination. GOTS certified cotton must also meet social criteria based on International Labor Organization (ILO) conventions, which cover rules on child labor, working hours and working conditions, minimum wages, discrimination and more.

RESPONSIBLY SOURCED, SUSTAINABLE COMPONENTS

Like our position on “re-purposing” textiles, we are also committed to using inventory (stock) buttons, labels, and trims as needed to reduce the possibility of overproduction. If needed, our trims will be sourced from the most responsible and sustainable materials, such as corozo (vegetable ivory) for buttons and recycled plastics for other trims.

MADE TO ORDER

To align our production methods with our sustainable values we are using a made-to-order model with very limited stock available. A major issue with the fashion industry is the waste of raw materials through overproduction. The made-to-order system prevents this by avoiding the unnecessary use of resources. By ordering early in the season, you will be helping to slow down the fashion system. By making your choices early you are not only supporting a sustainable business model but helping to cut waste.

PACKING MATERIALS

At the moment, our packing materials will be made from bio-degradable plastic and hang tags will be made on recycled paper products.
